Design & Modeling: Foot Orthosis Design

After learning a bit about Cerebral Palsy, but before being taught the engineering design process, Project Lead The Way students are challenged with creating a prototype of an ankle foot orthosis, with the goal of having them experience and reflect on the steps they take, the decisions they make, and the roles they play on the team during the process.

CLASSWORK TO SUBMIT

  • Picture of the “recorder’s” engineering notebook with the team’s design sketches and notes
  • Picture a team member’s engineering notebook with the team’s collaboration reflection
  • Picture or video of the developed prototype
  • Optional: video of team’s presentation to the class

For ease of submission, share this downloadable Word doc or this Google doc link with your students and have them to complete it (one per team). Then you can upload each form via the link above.

In the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Design and Modeling unit, middle school students learn about the engineering design process, creating for a user and prototyping. After learning a bit about Cerebral Palsy, but before being taught the engineering design process, students are challenged with creating a prototype of an ankle foot orthosis, with the goal of having them experience and reflect on the steps they take, the decisions they make, and the roles they play on the team during the process.

Spend a few hours reviewing projects online and sharing written feedback with students, all through our online portal.
