Seekonk Schools Receive STEM Grants

Seekonk Superintendent said STEM grants over the past two years have contributed about $100,000 for training, materials and equipment.

SEEKONK, MA —Seekonk Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard Drolet said new STEM programs will be implemented in district schools over the next three years with the help of two more grants. Drolet announced that Seekonk High School and Martin Elementary School received Project Lead the Way grants this year and that grants over the past two years total about $100,000 for STEM-based programs.

“This means that all four of our schools will be implementing increased STEM-based offerings for our students within the next three years,” Drolet said. “I am very grateful to our principals and teachers for seeking innovation and exploring hands-on, project-based learning and courses.’

Drolet said Hurley Middle School received a Project Lead the Way grant last year and that a grant application has been made on behalf of the Aitken Elementary School as well. Drolet the money will go toward teacher training, curricula materials and equipment.

Project Lead the Way is a non-profit organization designed to provide a transformative learning experience for pre-kindergarten through high school students and teachers through pathways in computer science, engineering and biomedical science. The grants are supported by Baker Administration, the One8 Hub Foundation and Mass STEM Hub.
